Four women, four nationalities, four instruments and a battery of resources: violin, electric violin, percussion, mallets, voice, keyboard, recorders, effects, and electronics. A powerful mix for a twenty-first century ensemble. ELECTRA's internationally renowned performers have come together in an unusual line-up to create highly original and critically lauded programs. Based in The Netherlands, but coming from different countries (USA, Bulgaria, Austria, Germany), ELECTRA works with established composers and discovers new collaborations, combining the latest new music with visual and theatrical elements. The ensemble performs amplified and is constantly exploring new territory.
ELECTRA has performed at venues throughout the world, including appearances at Queen Elizabeth Hall, Barbican Centre, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, MASS MoCA, Agora Festival (IRCAM), Varna Summer International Festival, Pontino Festival, Bergen International Festival, and has toured throughout Europe, Canada, and the United States. ELECTRA's New York debut took place in the 2004 'Sonic Evolutions' festival in the Great Performers Series at Lincoln Center.
In 2007, ELECTRA celebrated the release of its CD/DVD: ELECTRA Able to be ... , on the Attacca label.
