PROJECTS
Duo Koleva - van Otterloo

Tatiana Koleva - marimba/percussion
Rutger Van Otterloo - saxophones

General information

This project is based on several ideas that are essential to us as musicians: As part of the program I find it important always to include great examples of the modern music. The development of the percussion instruments in the last decades is of an extreme importance in the modern and experimental music, as well as the intense collaboration between performers and composers. The interaction between instruments, styles and different arts makes the musical performances nowadays really exciting and attractive not only to the specialist but to a broad audience world wide. The pieces we chose to play together are all good examples of the modern tendencies to try to cross the borders between different styles and cultures. In this case the chosen music is also heavily influenced by jazz, rock and world/folk music. The duo Koleva - van Otterloo was founded in the spring of 2003. Our first appearance took place during the International “Varna Summer Festival” in Varna Bulgaria. The success of that project was immediately obvious, being followed by invitations for further performances, and festivals. In Holland coming up invitations include performances in Almere, Middelburg and Haarlem.
