A blend of Flamenco and Balkan rhythms, told through new composition stories
This program is inspired by the fascinating rhythm worlds of Flamenco and the Balkans. Within it we’re looking for the common ground between these two cultures by making a poetic, passionate spectacle, where the songs, rhythms and personalities of both cultures intertwine and make a whole new world of sound and rhythm with connection as a main theme. The performance is situated withing a wooden installation that will serves as sound object. Next to that all the other sound items are wooden and traditional instruments. The Wood serves as a metaphor for warmth, nature, desire, birth, new beginning, purity.
Everything is sound, everything is movement: the wooden installation serving as sound object, the heals of the dancer are inevitably the additional percussion instrument, the Bulgarian tupans (folk drums) represent the dazzling rhythm virtuosity of the Balkan. The crown percussion instrument - the marimba is not to be missed in the show. The poetic, lyric sound of the kaval adds to this fascinating combination creating irresistible world of sonority and harmony that will complement and enchant the rhythms.
The story line of the show is loosely based on tales and legends of Bulgaria and Andalucia with emotions such as love, fiesta, witchcraft, jealousy, competition, contemplation. Those are expressed through the new compositions specially created for this show.
